I am so excited to announce my graduation from Southeast Missouri State University, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences. This journey has been an incredible mix of hard work, dedication, and unforgettable experiences. Reflecting on these past four years, I am deeply grateful for the guidance and blessings from God. This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family, friends, and the professors at SEMO. I am excited and hopeful for the future, and eager to embrace the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey!

I rejected my dream university. And I did it with a pretty heavy heart. ❤️🩹Ever since I heard about Minerva, I knew it would complement me as a learner and student. The application process was engaging and fun and talking to so many current and future students really solidified the idea thatI would actually be a good fit for Minerva university. And soon this realisation was confirmed. I had been accepted! 🎉It felt so good. But if I was being completely honest, although Minerva as a university experience and learning environment felt so right -My heart ultimately lies in medicine. 🩺I really want to delve into global health and education but I also really want to practice as a doctor, which ultimately is a traditional career, that a non-traditional university cannot prepare me for. So I have firmed Cambridge and chosen Edinburgh for my insurance uni, and I’m excited to begin the long slog to A levels.I want to say thank you for every Minervan, doctor and medical student who helped me make this decision, and especially to Alena Savitskaya, the enrollment director at Minerva. Non-traditional universiities are so so cool and I’m would still 10000% reccomend applying - a university like Minerva could change your life and I know it would be my first choice for literally any other course. As Alena Savitskaya told me: your university experience is mostly WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. Whatever route you take after leaving school, you have the power to turn it into something incredible.NEW CHAPTERS NEW CHAPTERS

Today's question: Why did you do a PhD? I have attached a picture of my Master's graduation to help answer that question. That picture was taken exactly 8 years ago today, my daughter who is with me in the photo is now in year 8 and about the same height as me.I graduated knowing that I was going to carry on and do a PhD, I had already made my decision and spent the day watching those graduating in the red gowns and big hats, seeing what was to come. During my masters I did a module with James Ladwig and he made a suggestion that doing a practical research project would be possible and I jumped at the opportunity. Both James and John Fischetti kept a keen eye on my project where I looked at the career aspirations of my colleagues at St Joseph's Catholic College in East Gosford and the training availability for leadership roles. I found that within my context we were heading for a world of problems with very few interested in leadership due to the perceived workload and impact on their family. When I submitted my project James suggested that it was a good start to a project for a PhD. I had done a course with Scott Imig on the use of mentoring and I started to make some connections of what I could do.I asked James and Scott to be my supervisors and the rest is history. Both James and Scott have been absolutely amazing at keeping me on track and getting me to this point. I can't thank them enough.Little did I know that there was a pandemic on the way that would mean that collecting data would be interrupted or that it would take me so long. I will address the question of where I found the time to write a thesis in a later post, but for now I am going to celebrate as it is my birthday.More to come tomorrow.#Phd #PhDlife #PhDpostsubmission #CSBB #graduation

Our early career scholars (three cohorts) who received Ford Foundation Fellowships are phenomenal and bring the energy of starshine and stellar nurseries with them. They are going to gift the world with so much in the areas of public health, applied psychology, ethical governance, genetics research, political science, education...my list is dismal in the face of this future. Beloved early career scholars, I and other Senior Ford Fellows are with you. #The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
